Retirement Policy & Procedure PRET01 £20 plus VAT

This policy sets out a procedure to be followed in retiring an employee. Since October 2006 there has been a statutory minimum procedure which employers are obliged to follow in order to terminate an employee’s employment fairly on the grounds of retirement. The failure to comply with the statutory procedure will in turn deprive the employer of the protection given in the legislation; thus rendering any retirement that has not followed the correct procedure as being unfair, and discriminatory. This policy follows a step-by- step guide to enable an employer to comply with the statutory procedure, setting out the timetable to be followed to include considering a request to work beyond the normal retirement date, appeals by employees. It enables the employer to follow a procedure that will result in a fair retirement.
